The Effects of Hippotherapy on Balance and Activity of Daily living in Children with Autism

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of hippotherapy on balance and activity of daily living in Children with Autism. The 25 number of autistic children are divided into case group(n=12) and control group(n=13) respectively. Balance was measured by using balance performance monitor(BPM) and practical independence level of daily living was measured by using funcitonal independence measure for children(WeeFIM). The case group and control group exercised with twice a week at 30 to 40 minutes for 10 weeks. This study adopted t-test for evaluating the differences happened between the two groups before and after their respective exercise. In conclusion, hippotherapy can deliver a positive effect on enhancing sway area, sway path, maximal sway velocity for balance and activities of daily living in everyday life.
